I have a simple business tip to share with you today.
Ideas are like slippery fish….
….Don’t let them get away!
Perhaps you’re just starting out as a Pre/Postnatal Specialist.
Or, maybe you’ve been in the industry for a while.
There’s always someone out there that has:
- a better website,
- awesome marketing material,
- flyers that sell,
- newsletters that look amazing and,
- a Social Media presence you only dream of.
If this is the case for you, then…
…You NEED a Swipe File.
Say for example you find yourself on someone’s website or blog and…
You LOVE their layout.
The positioning of their sign-up box is spot on.
The freemium they’re offering in exchange for a prospective client’s email address is something new, fresh and exciting.
A font somewhere on the page catches your eye.
The images used are just amazing.
…You NEED a Swipe File.
Perhaps you’ve seen someone’s Twitter cover photo and….
The colours there fit really well with the message you’re trying to portray.
It showcases their talents perfectly.
You really want your graphic designer to copy it.
The tagline is right up your street.
…Add it to your Swipe File.
Someone hands you their business card that’s really eye-catching.
Don’t just pop it in the bin – take a photo of it on your phone and…
…add it to your Swipe File.
HOW DO I SET UP A SWIPE FILE?
Setting up a file is simple, and you have two options:
1) WORD DOCUMENT
Whenever you land on someone’s website, blog or sales page and something catches your eye, copy and paste the link into a Word document.
Tip: Save the document to your Desktop so you can easily find for next time.
Then, add a few comments next to the url / page link to prompt your memory.
Or even better, get really organised and section each page into things like:
a) fonts I want
b) sign up boxes that rock
c) freemiums that are fresh
d) website themes in my dreams
e) emails for she-mails
Create a ‘Secret’ Board on Pinterest. You can follow me here.
Then, whenever you see an image or ‘pin’ where the font was spot on, the layout was amazing, you’d love an infographic just like it, just ‘Pin it’ t your Secret Board for later use.
And, there you have it!
Your very own Swipe File.
It’s a bit like a guilty pleasure, isn’t it, and you may be WAY off setting up a new website right now, but when you do – you’ll have the spec already there to send to your website designer.
How cool’s that?
