Postnatal-21Today I’m answering a FAQ which I’m often asked by Fitness and Pilates Instructors when they embark on setting up a postnatal session.

If you’re wanting to have babies present, whilst mum exercises during your class, then you’ll want baby to be sleepy or with a bit of luck, fully asleep during your session.

Times that work best are:

  • 11:00am
  • 12:3opm
  • 1:30pm

Postnatal-124Today, I’m sharing my top 5 business tips that have helped the pre and postnatal arm to my business survive and thrive:


  1. Ask clients to pay upfront – A must when dealing with the client groups I attract.  You may have a very successful pay as you go business, and I’d like to say “well done” to you!  There will be times though, when numbers on your supposedly busy class will plummet and there goes your profit for the evening.  All of my classes are run on a pay upfront basis.  Yes, all of them.
  2. Set firm but fair terms and conditions – If you don’t set terms and conditions or have a clear refund policy, people will use you as their doormat.  Harsh but true.
  3. Passive income stream – If you want to be teaching your classes until you’re 70+, then you might as well skim right on by to the next point here.  If, however, you don’t want to teach forever, setting up a successful online business/passive income stream is vital.  I love making money whilst I sleep.  You can too.

Postnatal-57It seems like HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) is THE new thing in fitness.  I’m well and truly sold on the idea because nowadays it’s the only way I train myself.  What about you?

Quite simply, what other workout gives you maximum fat-burning results in less time?  It’s awesome.

Gone are the days where we encourage clients to do slow, continuous-paced cardio workouts, and this certainly should apply when it comes to training our new mums too.

2_picture of bookI’m sure you’re aware of the benefits of Blogging and sending out client newsletters, but I’m often asked in my closed Facebook Group for Ante/Postnatal Instructors “What should I write about?”, so I’m here to help.


I’m going to start with the “101 in article writing and blogging”.  Are you ready?  Well, basically, if a client asks you a question in class, write a blog post about it.  It’s as simple as that!


Answering clients’ frequently asked questions is where I get the majority of my ideas from for newsletter articles and blog posts.  They’re a great resource.
If you’re newly qualified, your Level 3 Ante/Postnatal manual should give you fairly up-to-date statistical information, so you could start quite simply with answering these questions, just by flicking through the data in your manual:

Postnatal-12When it comes to customer retention and a pregnant/postnatal population, it’s pretty tough going.

If you’re lucky, clients join you at around 20 weeks pregnant.  They stay until they’re due to give birth, go off and have their baby and sometimes return to us in a postnatal setting.  But not always.

One of the best things you can do to to build rapport, gain clients’ trust and educate them in the process is by sending out a weekly newsletter.

It’s your role as an Ante/Postnatal Specialist to empower, educate and impart knowledge.  Don’t ever see your newsletter as SPAM.  Use it as an opportunity to let your clients get to know you as a person, find out about the services you offer, and help them make sense of all of the misinformation available online.
